Global MindShift

Like so many innovations, the idea for Global MindShift emerged during a conversation. Some time ago, a small group of people began talking about their various personal experiences of being deeply involved in projects aimed at personal and social, or systemic, change.

The group got to talking about the many current challenges in the world, and about what might be done in response. Almost everyone felt a certain nagging dis-ease, but they also felt hopeful in spite of the problems we face. Hopeful because they sensed that humanity is beginning to understand the awesome, unfolding nature of the story of life and the cosmos. At the same time, we're inventing new, more inclusive communication technologies that make it possible for more and more people to creatively participate in forming new responses to natural and human challenges.

Since the people in the group had prior success in creating and disseminating new ideas, in working with individuals and institutions, and dealing with big ideas, they thought that it would be challenging and rewarding to bring their collective experience to bear on the world's complex and, at times seemingly overwhelming, problems and opportunities.

Subsequently, the conversation evolved into a series of meetings that took place in California's Silicon Valley, one of the many centers of innovation and creativity on the planet. How do we use technology to create a better future? How do we help people appreciate the awesome process that has produced us? How do we best respond to the fact that humans now wield such enormous power to influence the future? How do we include and connect people who share an interest in creating a better future based upon broad, inclusive thinking?
